Prémios Gulbenkian atribuídos a Ângelo de Sousa, Ar.Co, Aldeias SOS e a dois cientistas

Os primeiros Prémios Gulbenkian foram hoje atribuídos a Ângelo de Sousa (Arte), Associação das Aldeias de Crianças SOS Portugal (Beneficência), a Maria do Carmo Fonseca e Luís Barreira (Ciência) e ao Ar.Co-Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual (Educação), anunciou a Fundação.

Cada um destes quatro galardões tem o valor de 50.000 euros e correspondem às quatro áreas estatutárias contempladas na actividade da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.

A cerimónia de entrega dos prémios vai realizar-se a 20 de Julho, data do aniversário da morte de Calouste Gulbenkian e contará com a presença do Presidente da República.

Com esta cerimónia e com um concerto de música contemporânea que se realiza a 17 de Julho, a Fundação Gulbenkian encerra as comemorações dos 50 anos da sua criação, iniciadas há precisamente um ano.

eDward - The Young Filmmaker's Award

eDward - The Young Filmmaker's Award is the international Film-Competition for young talents up to 30 and is announced by eDIT 10. Filmmaker's Festival. Prove your talent and creativity with a 30-second-film and win prizes up to 2.500 Euro. The Competition is open to young filmmakers up to 30. They must have been born on or after 1.1.1977. Students, agency juniors and free film-creative especially are called worldwide to take part individually or in teams.
The topic of the competition
eDward is accomplished in one category:

My love ...Without doubt, love has many facets. What's loveable to me might be repellant to you. And yet the need to share our experience of love is huge. Almost every film needs a love story, libraries are full of books about love, and love has inspired the seven arts more than almost any other subject.Quite apart from the everyday interchange between men and women, women and women or men and men, our prime and omnipresent concern is love. It can be considered and reconsidered from an almost infinite number of perspectives. New ideas and observations are always welcome in fathoming the mystery of love.And for all eDward filmmakers, this is YOUR chance to get to the heart of what you always wanted to say on the subject. An almost unlimited number of viewers is avidly waiting to see and hear it!
Submissions will be judged according to the following main criteria:- thematic relevance of content;- visionary perspective;- original nature of idea;- visual language/optical representation- execution (camera, effects, editing, sound, image processing)

The task: 30 - Seconds film
Participants must send in a film of up to max. 30 seconds. This common time format for commercials will prove who is able to get to the heart of their vision and translate it into images. The form of the entry (feature, animation, hybrid form etc.) is free.The choice of format is also free, but the master must be available on MiniDV, Beta SP or digibeta (PAL).
The Prizes
The winners win up to € 2.500 in cash and other valuable prices. The first winner also wins the unique eDward-cup. Further material prizes will be given. The winners will be invited to eDIT 10. Filmmaker's Festival 29 September - 02 October 2007 in Frankfurt, where the award ceremony will be celebrated.

The Next Big Thing - Ar.Co no Lisbon Village Festival

O recém-criado departamento de Vídeo, Filme Experimental e Novos Media do Ar.Co dedica-se à formação de autores produzindo objectos espaciais/sonoros/plásticos no âmbito de uma estética do “videográfico”. Enquanto área disciplinar específica, o videográfico é considerado como uma área de sensibilidade e de composição determinada pela expansão democrática das tecnologias informático-digitais.

Área de sensibilidade – e não campo tecnológico. Trata-se de reconhecer e seguir um material impuro, “misturado”, simultaneamente evanescente e omnipresente - uma velocidade, antes de mais – a partir da qual o mundo, a arte e a sua memória são revistos, atravessados e criticados por uma “mobilidade e hipersensibilidade dos nervos e da inteligência” inerentes ao olhar metropolitano (G. Vattimo) e ao corpo que a elas se ajusta, abre ou resiste.

Não espantará que nesse mundo revisto se convoquem e trabalhem fantasmas: a expressão cénica do corpo, a estética projectiva do desenho, a consideração escultórica do lugar, as corporizações cromáticas da pintura ou a vocação documental da fotografia.

De modos (e com meios) variados, as obras seleccionadas reconhecem a implausibilidade de um ideal monumental de obra de arte, nascem junto à fonte da contingência, fazem da velocidade o seu chão e o seu método.

1. The aim of this summon is to select artists to carry out temporary or brief interventions, including two specific projects for the builidings of La Casa de América and the Círculo de Bellas Artes, which will be included in Madrid Abierto with other invited projects and the sound and audiovisual works selected.

2. Interventions will take place at the same time as the ARCO fair, in February 2008, in Madrid, within the axes of Paseo de la Castellana - Paseo del Prado and Calle de Alcalá – Gran Vía.

The sound works will be broadcasting on Radio 3, of Radio Nacional de España, and audiovisual on the Canal Metro channel.

3. Artists from every country may participate (except for Casa de América, which is restricted to Latin American artists), whether individually or in groups. In which case, they must name a representative.

4. A) Artistic interventions.- Each participant must include the following documents:

* Curriculum Vitae with a maximum of 2,000 characters and a photocopy of the Spanish ID card (or an equivalent form of identification) of the author or authors.

* Description of a completed project and a specific preliminary project for Madrid, which must not surpass 4,000 characters.

* A maximum of six drafts or images of the project and the preliminary project in jpg format, with a maximum resolution of 72 ppp.

* Description of the assembly system and technical needs of the preliminary project.

* Estimated and detailed budget of the preliminary project, stating all the concepts that could be financed by their own means.

* All archives must be compatible with a PC. The archives sent from a MACINTOSH must end in extensions (doc, xls, pdf, jpg, tif, ...).

* Should we not receive all the above mentioned information, the participation will be dismissed.

* The maximum amount awarded for each artist chosen totals 12,000 euros, including expenses derived from transports, accommodation, production, travel and assembly, the author or authors’ salary (up to a maximum of 2,000 euros) and current legal taxes.

B) Sound works.- Each participant must include the following documents:

* Curriculum Vitae with a maximum of 2,000 characters and a photocopy of the Spanish ID card (or an equivalent form of identification) of the author or authors.

* Description of the part that must not surpass 4,000 characters.

* The works will be presented during a maximum 10 minutes and will be sent in a CD format.

* Those candidates selected will receive 500 euros and a direct master copy of their works will be included in the documentary fund and the public archive of Madrid Abierto, with a possible non-profit making addition to the web page www.madridabierto.com, subject to prior agreement with the authors.

C) Audiovisual works.- Those audiovisual works chosen in the summons 2007 for TV Interventions (www.intervenciones.tv, www.fundacionrdz.com) will be included in the Madrid Abierto 2008 programme, in collaboration with Fundación Rodríguez and with Centro Cultural Montehermoso, and will be broadcasted on Canal Metro. Those candidates selected will receive 500 euros and a direct master copy of their works will be included in the documentary fund and the public archive of Madrid Abierto, with a possible non-profit making addition to the web page www.madridabierto.com, subject to prior agreement with the authors.

5.All proposals are to be sent via e-mail to abierto@madridabierto.com, before June 15th 2007 (or via the post to Fundación Altadis-Madrid Abierto. Calle Eloy Gonzalo nº 10, 28010 Madrid).

6. The advisory committee at Madrid Abierto, chaired by the director of the programme, Jorge Díez, and formed by Cecilia Andersson, Guillaume Dèsanges, Ramon Parramon,
Mª Inés Rodríguez, Fito Rodríguez and the Democracia Group, will name the curator or curators of this edition. La Casa de América and the Círculo de Bellas Artes will select a representative for the selection of the intervention corresponding to each institution.

The curator will choose the participating artists by assessing the quality and feasibility of the proposal, as well as the complete reversibility of the interventions, and will complete the choice with other artists invited until reaching a maximum of 50% of the total number of artists chosen in the open summons. As we are dealing with projects that will be presented in public spaces, the local permits required must be obtained in order to carry out effective installation. The process will be managed by Madrid Abierto.

Should the artists selected use - in any way - images or elements belonging to third parties in their project, they must provide the corresponding permits issued by the owners.

7. Madrid Abierto reserves the rights to publish and represent the artistic interventions selected in all those cases related with the programme promotion, and will include all the documents generated into its documentary fund and public archive. The projects and works selected will belong to the authors, and the developing institutions will have the right to acquire them.

8. Participation in this summons means full acceptance of the rules established in this document.

Village Art

A exposição “The Next Big Thing” dá a conhecer projectos de finalistas das principais escolas de arte nacionais, apresentando o trabalho destas instituições em torno da introdução das novas tecnologias no campo das artes plásticas. Projecções de vídeo, instalações, programação interactiva e fotografias digitais fazem parte desta colectiva, que faz convergir no mesmo espaço trabalhos e experiências variadas. Para divulgar as obras de quem ainda dá os primeiros passos no mundo das artes, o Lisbon Village Festival propõe com “The Next Big Thing” uma mostra do presente que promove os talentos do futuro. As escolas associadas a esta exposição são o Ar.Co - Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual, a ESAD - Escola Superior de Artes e Design de Matosinhos, a ESAD - Escola Superior de Artes e Design das Caldas da Rainha / Instituto Politécnico de Leiria, as Faculdades de Belas Artes da Universidade de Lisboa e da Universidade do Porto e a Universidade de Évora.

Workshop The One Minutes Portugal

Convidam-se artistas de todas as áreas e disciplinas das artes plásticas e visuais a apresentar candidaturas com vista à participação no Workshop The One Minutes Portugal.

Durante o Workshop, os vinte artistas seleccionados produzirão vinte filmes em vídeo com a duração exacta de um minuto, sob a orientação de um monitor enviado a Portugal pela The One Minutes Foundation (Amesterdão) e de um artista português.

O Workshop terá lugar entre os dias 1 e 5 de Outubro de 2007 nas instalações da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian em Lisboa, prevendo-se a projecção dos filmes The One Minutes aberta ao público a 13 de Outubro de 2007.

O resultado do Workshop será também apresentado no Museu de Arte Contemporânea Today Art Museum em Pequim no evento “The 2008 One Minutes” em que 100 países, incluindo Portugal, são convidados a apresentar a sua selecção nacional de One Minutes.

O júri encarregue da selecção dos candidatos ao workshop é constituído por Miguel Amado e Cíntia Gil.
Os monitores do workshop são os artistas Amir Admoni (Holanda) e Nuno Cera (Portugal).
